The Boston Red Sox entered the third game of the series in a very unfamiliar place. The Sox had lost three consecutive games, tied for the longest streak of the season. So naturally, the sky was falling and the Red Sox needed a bounce-back win. Fortunately, Xander Bogaerts led the offense to a dominant 10-4 victory. The Boston Red Sox end their losing streak and improve to 89-39 on the season.

Boston Red Sox End Losing Streak, Win 10-4

Wednesday’s game didn’t get off on the best foot for the Boston Red Sox. Going up against one of the best offenses in baseball, Red Sox starter Brian Johnson once again struggled in the first inning. He gave up a towering home run to Indians slugger Edwin Encarnacion. After just one inning, the Red Sox found themselves down 2-0.

Fortunately, the bats wouldn’t stay quiet for long. After struggling at the plate in the last few games, the offense came back in a big way. It all started in the bottom of the fourth when Xander Bogaerts launched a massive solo shot over the Green Monster and out of Fenway. His blast tied the game, but the Sox offense wouldn’t quit. In all, they put up five runs in the fourth – including a three-run double by Andrew Benintendi, to take a 6-2 lead.

Edwin Encarnacion, who has made a career of crushing balls in Fenway, knocked another two-run shot in the fifth inning against Heath Hembree. Once again, the bats came through, as Mitch Moreland launched a two-run homer of his own to give the Red Sox an 8-4 lead.

Bogaerts added another homer in the top of the eighth to add to the lead. His second shot of the night made it a 9-4 game and ensured the Sox would end the day with a win. David Price takes the mound in the series. First pitch is tomorrow at 1:05.
