Sox shut out O’s 5-0, J.D. collects three RBI

J.D. continues hot hitting against Baltimore in 5-0 shutout

In Sunday’s finale against the Baltimore Orioles, the Sox sealed a series win with a    5-0 shutout. J.D. Martinez put two balls in the seats and collected three RBIs. Eduardo Rodriguez was dominant as he was able to avoid trouble throughout the entire game. Andrew Benintendi put together a great game and Jackie Bradley Jr. got in the action with a hit in the middle innings.

Eddy was masterful on the mound on Sunday. He did not blow anyone away but he showed maturity as he was able to get in and out of trouble while avoiding damage. He put in a strong 5.2 innings on the mound. E-Rod gave up nine hits but picked up seven strikeouts before exiting the game in the 6th inning.

J.D. went opposite field in the third inning and deposited a ball towards the Pesky Pole to take a 1-0 lead.

The bottom of the 5th put the game away in the Sox favor. JBJ found some green as he hit a leadoff double. Mookie Betts moved Jackie over to third with a fly out to right field. Benny deposited a ball over the bullpen in right field to extend the Sox lead 3-0. Mitch Moreland hit a double and set the table for J.D. to drive in another run. Martinez went to the deepest part of the yard, hitting his 2nd home run of the game to dead center field.  Martinez collected 3 RBIs on Sunday.

The bullpen combined for their second scoreless outing. After Eddy left in the bottom of the 6th inning, Heath Hembree came into the game and pitched a scoreless 1.1 innings. Hembree only gave up one hit in his outing. In the 8th inning, left-hander Bobby Poyner came in and only gave up one hit in one inning of work. Brian Johnson came into the ninth inning and closed the door, only allowing one hit and picked up a strike out to seal the win 5-0.

Other notables of the game was Benintendi. Benny finished the game going 3-5 with two RBIs. His two RBIs were tallied when he hit the two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. He finished the day with one run scored.
