Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Mookie Betts is amazing. He proved it again tonight with a monster walk off home run to lead off the bottom of the 10th inning.

With that home run, Mookie bailed out Craig Kimbrel, who didn’t have it tonight and blew only his 3rd save of the season. He entered in the 8th inning to try to convert a 4 out save, something he is not known for doing. However, Eddie Rosario tagged him for a 2 run double to give the Twins the lead 3-2.

That lead would be short lived, as Rafael Devers hit a 112 MPH laser into the bullpen to tie the game at 3. That sent the game into extras and set Mookie up for his first career walk off homer and his 25th homer of the year.

Tyler Thornburg picked up his first win as a Red Sox by pitching a 1-2-3 10th inning, but it was Chris Sale who really earned the win. He pitched another fantastic, scoreless outing tonight and was robbed of his 12th win of the season by the blown save.

He has not allowed a single run since July 6 against the Royals, when he let up 1 run. His ERA is now a minuscule 2.04, the lowest in the AL.

Sale only allowed 3 hits in his 6 innings of work tonight. He tallied 10 strikeouts including his 200th of the season. According to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe, Sale is the fastest in America League history to log 200 k’s.

The only offensive spark before the 9th came on a 2 run homer in the 5th inning by Jackie Bradley Jr., his 8th of the season.

Although the rough performance by Kimbrel almost cost the Sox the game, the offense picked him up and came in clutch like they have all season. After the Yankees rainout, they now have a 5 game lead in the AL East with a 72-33 record.
