When Marco Hernandez beat out a ground ball to shortstop with with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, it ended a long, hard-fought game in which the Red Sox came back to tie on three separate occasions before winning.

A two-run home run by Yoan Moncada opened the scoring in the second. Then Jackie Bradley Jr. homered and Eduardo Nunez hit an RBI single to tie the game. The White Sox took the lead back in the sixth inning on a home run by Jose Abreu. The Red Sox managed to tie the game at three with a bases loaded walk by Michael Chavis in the bottom of the inning.

Chicago struck for two more runs in the seventh inning, but the Red Sox kept inching back. Mookie Betts hit his 13th home run of the season in the seventh, and Nunez picked up his second RBI hit of the game to knot the game at five in the eighth. The Red Sox loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, and Hernandez sent the crowd home happy with the second walk-off win of the homestand.

Brandon Workman earned his seventh win of the season after pitching to just one batter in the top of the ninth and striking him out. His seven wins are good for second on the team behind the man who started on Monday, Eduardo Rodriguez. Rodriguez pitched 6.1 innings and was charged for all five White Sox runs on six hits. The bullpen had as clean night though, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings with six strikeouts.

The Red Sox failed to move up in the standings despite the win, as the Yankees won too. They still sit eight games back of first place and three games behind the Rays for second. The two pairs of Sox will meet again tomorrow at 7 p.m. David Price is scheduled to start, while the White Sox have yet to announce their starter.
