Steve Wright went seven innings striking out six and giving up only two hits for his second win. J.D. Martinez hit his 20th home run of the season, becoming the first player in Major League Baseball to reach the 20th home run plateau. Martinez’s two-run home run came in the 1st inning to put the Red Sox ahead early on. Xander Bogaerts also hit a home run in the 5th, his 9th of the season.
Wright’s only appeared in seven games this season but is 2-0 with a 1.57 ERA.
The Red Sox improved their Major League-leading standing with a 42-19 overall record for a .689 winning percentage. Several of the Red Sox, including Dustin Pedroia, Drew Pomeranz, and Mookie Betts are all on the disabled list, which doesn’t seem to hamper the Red Sox’s winning record.
The Red Sox take on the Detroit Tigers again today at 7:10pm at Fenway Park. The Tigers’ Blaine Hardy will square off against Eduardo Rodriguez.
