For the first time in 2019, the Red Sox are above .500. Everybody hit against the Mariners Friday night as the Red Sox put 14 runs on the board. Eduardo Rodriguez pitched another excellent game as the Red Sox have won 9of their last 11 games.

This was the second time in 6 games that the Red Sox have scored at least 14 runs, as the offense is starting to wake up. Seven Boston batters had an RBI against the Mariners in the opening game of the series.

Devers and Moreland lead the attack with a pair of homers

As an offensive unit, the Sox cashed in on just about every scoring opportunity they set up for themselves. Individually, Mitch Moreland and Rafael Devers led the way. They each drove in 4 runs on their own and both had a home run on Friday. Moreland’s home run – a 3-run bomb in the third – was his 11th on the year, which leads the Sox.

Devers’ night added on to what has been a great month of May for the third baseman. He’s hitting .368/.405/.605 over 38 plate appearances with 10 RBI in nine May games.

With how well the Sox hit, there wasn’t a need for a great pitching performance. But, that is exactly what Rodriguez gave them. He pitched through 7 and did not surrender a run. While he didn’t rack up huge strikeout numbers, Rodriguez halted any opportunities the Mariners had. Seattle was 1-8 with runners in scoring position as they struggled to do anything against Rodriguez.

After two rough starts to the season, Rodriguez has settled in. The Red Sox have won all of his last 6 starts. Over that span, he’s given up just 11 earned runs over 35 innings, good for a 2.26 ERA. With David Price on the Injured List, Eduardo Rodriguez has been a consistent, reliable starter for Boston.

The Red Sox will look to stay hot as they face the Mariners Saturday afternoon. Rick Porcello will face Felix Hernandez as the Red Sox will hope pick up another series win.
