The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Boston Red Sox 8-1 on Sunday afternoon at Charlotte Sports Park in Charlotte County, Florida. Tampa Bay outhit Boston 15 to 6 in the rout.
There were many big names to make the trip for this contest. Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, Jackie Bradley Jr., and others joined starting pitcher Rick Porcello. The group’s usual stardom was not on display, as only three members of the starting lineup accumulated hits.
Meanwhile, Ricky Raindrops allowed two earned runs in three innings. This was accompanied by one strikeout and no walks.
Hector Velazquez relieved Porcello in the fourth and was briskly rocked. In two innings, the pitcher fighting for a roster spot allowed four earned runs. Brandon Workman followed him in the 6th and did not fare much better. He enabled two runs to score in his inning of work.
Boston will actually have an off-day on Monday, which is its first since Spring Training began on February 22nd. The squad will pick back up on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers on its home turf at JetBlue Park.
