Red Sox Lose to Phillies 3-1
Drew Pomeranz has his strongest outing yet, but it wasn’t enough as the Red Sox lose to the fighting’ Phillies.

Drew Pomeranz went five innings, giving up four hits, two runs, and four walks while striking out three. He is now 1-5 for the season.
Xander Bogaerts, Jackie Bradley Jr., and J.D. Martinez smashed doubles for the Red Sox. Bogaerts drove in the single run the Red Sox scored , but it wasn’t enough to overcome Jake Arrieta’s dominance over the Sox at Fenway Park.
Arrieta went seven innings giving up six hits, one run, and struck out seven to improve to a 9-6 record for the season. The Phillies currently hold a half game lead in the National League East over the Atlanta Braves.
Ian Kinsler made his debut with the Red Sox after coming over from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Kinsler went 1-4 with a single. Kinsler is filling in at second base as the Red Sox continue to find someone to fill the position permanently. Dustin Pedroia, who usually plays second, will likely be out for the remainder of the season.
The Boston Red Sox currently have a five game lead over the New York Yankees in the American League East. The Sox will take on the Yankees for a four game series starting Thursday, August 2nd at Fenway Park.
Brian Johnson (1-3) will start Thursday’s game aghast CC Sabathia (6-4).
