The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Boston Red Sox 5-1 on Saturday night. With the victory, Tampa Bay advances to 69-61 on the season while Boston falls to 90-41 with the loss. Rick Porcello took the mound for the Red Sox and Ryan Yarbrough did the same for the Rays. The game was played at Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay.

Despite the loss, Porcello pitched adequately in this one. He went five innings of three earned run ball, striking out eight and walking two. The bullpen, specifically Brandon Workman and Tyler Thornburg, each gave up a run in their respective inning of work. Per usual, Ryan Brasier was the only Red Sox reliever to be able to escape with no runs crossing the plate.

On offense, it was a ghost town for Boston. The team had five total hits in the contest, four of which came from the bats of J.D. Martinez and Eduardo Nunez. Xander Bogaerts also recorded a hit in the game.

The Boston Red Sox take on the Tampa Bay Rays at 1:10 p.m. eastern time on Sunday. Nathan Eovaldi will get to start against his former team for the first time. Meanwhile, Rays’ ace Blake Snell will get the ball for them. Tampa Bay will go for the sweep on the Red Sox.
