The Boston Red Sox, who just became the first team in the MLB to reach 70 wins this season, lost to the last place Baltimore Orioles 7-6. Home runs hit by Jonathan Schoop and Tim Beckham put the O’s past the reach of the Red Sox, who attempted late inning rallies in the 8th and 9th.
According to ESPN.com, this marks only the third loss for the Red Sox in their last eighteen games. They lead all other MLB teams with a .689 winning percentage and have a five-game lead over the Yankees in the American League East. The O’s have the worst record in baseball with a .284 winning percentage and only 29 wins.
J.D. Martinez hit two home runs, including one in the 8th inning that helped spark a rally that fell short of one run to tie the O’s. Martinez’s season total is now 31. Mookie Betts and Blake Swiart also hit solo shots.
Refry Ramirez picked up his first win of the season while Pomeranz is now 1-4 for the season.
David Price (11-6) will square off with the O’s Dylan Bundy (6-9) at Camden Yards in Baltimore at 7:05pm.
