The Cleveland Indians’ Shane Bieber took a shutout into the 7th inning against the Red Sox to win the game. Nathan Eovaldi gave up ten hits and four earned runs in 5.1 innings for his fifth loss of the season. Tonight’s loss marks the third straight loss for the Red Sox.
The Red Sox managed to score three runs in the seventh inning when Xander Bogaerts, Mitch Moreland, and Ian Kinsler drove in runs, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Indians’ offense. Andrew Benintendi was the only player in the lineup to get more than one hit tonight.
The Cleveland Indians are currently in first place in the American League Central, 13.5 games ahead of the Minnesota Twins. The Indians knocked the Red Sox out of the 2016 ALDS before advancing to the World Series where they were defeated by the Chicago Cubs in seven games.
The Red Sox take on the Cleveland Indians for the third game in the series Wednesday night at 7:10pm at Fenway Park. Brian Johnson (4-3, 4.00 ERA) will face off against Carlos Carrasco (15-6, 3.33).
