The Boston Red Sox defeated the New York Yankees 6-3 on Thursday night in the rubber match of the three-game series. With the victory, Boston advances to 10-2 on the season while New York falls to 6-7. Rick Porcello was the starting pitcher for the Red Sox and Sonny Gray did the same for the Yankees. The game was played at Fenway Park in Boston.

Despite a near hour rain delay between the 5th inning, Rick Porcello was dominant in the outing. The right-hander pitched seven innings of no-run ball, allowing just two hits and zero walks. He also struck out six batters.

The Red Sox did their offensive damage in the 2nd and 3rd inning of the game. With runners on the corners in the second frame, Sandy Leon got the Sox’ surge going with an RBI single to right field. They went onto score three more runs in the inning but did so in unexciting ways.

In the 3rd inning, they tacked on two more runs. An opposite-field single by Mitch Moreland and a Jackie Bradley Jr. double (in other words, a Giancarlo Stanton defensive blunder) drove in the runs in the inning.

Marcus Walden, who was recently called up from Pawtucket, came into pitch the 8th inning of the game. He got through the 8th seamlessly but struggled in the 9th, allowing three Yankees to score on a Gary Sanchez double deep in the right-center field gap.

Craig Kimbrel, who had not pitched since Sunday, relieved him in the middle of the 9th and closed the game out for the Sox.

The Boston Red Sox will take on the Baltimore Orioles at 7:10 p.m. eastern time on Friday. Eduardo Rodriguez will take the hill for Boston while Chris Tillman will do so for Baltimore. It will be the first game of a four-game set between the squads.

Dirty water, indeed.
