The Boston Red Sox faced the Atlanta Braves for the second straight game and earned their second straight victory. Led by a strong performance by the pitching staff and a solid performance at the plate, the Boston Red Sox take the series win against the Atlanta Braves.

Boston Red Sox Win Series, Beat Atlanta Braves 5—1

Rick Porcello took the mound against the Braves looking to overcome a string of ugly starts. While it wasn’t his best start of the night, the righty managed to string together a good outing. Porcello ended his night tossing five innings of one-run ball, with the lone score coming on a solo home-run by Kurt Suzuki.

Because it’s the National League, Porcello left the game after five when Rafael Devers came off the bench to pinch-hit. However, Porcello had already thrown 100 pitches, so he probably wouldn’t have gone much deeper into the game. Still, this was a very positive outing for the struggling Porcello.

Offensively, the Red Sox had a prime opportunity to score in the fourth inning. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Eduardo Nunez, Jackie Bradley Jr., and Sandy Leon all had a chance to drive in a run. Nobody could do it, and the Sox didn’t capitalize.

They didn’t make the same mistake in the fifth inning. Faced with the same situation, Xander Bogaerts worked a game-tying walk. One batter later, Steve Pearce drove a single to right to give the Red Sox a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish. In all, Pearce finished his night with three RBI’s.

With the victory, the Red Sox magic number to clinch the AL East drops to 15. Hector Velazquez takes the mound tomorrow in the series finale against the Atlanta Braves.
