The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Boston Red Sox 8-1 on Patriot’s Day. With the loss, the Red Sox fall to a lowly 6-11 on the season. The team has still yet to win a series in 2019.
Christian Vazquez, who has played one professional game at second in Single-A, started at second base. This caused an uproar on Twitter before the game, however, he actually was able to make some nifty plays. He turned a double play and made a sweet snag on a throw-out to second.
Meanwhile, the rotation had an off-day, as Hector Velazquez filled in with three innings to start the game. He was dicey throughout the performance, but escaped with just one run allowed.
The bullpen, which has been one of the only bright spot for the team, crumbled in this contest. Marcus Walden allowed three earned runs in relief, which was followed by a swift demotion to Pawtucket. Heath Hembree and Tyler Thornburg also gave up two runs a piece.
