Dustin Pedroia Activated From Injured List

The Boston Red Sox longtime second baseman is back on the diamond. According to multiple reports, the Red Sox have activated Dustin Pedroia from the injured list. Pedroia missed the opening west coast road trip while rehabbing from a knee injury initially sustained in 2017. In a corresponding move, the Red Sox have demoted utility infielder Tzu-Wei Lin to the AAA Pawtucket Red Sox.

Dustin Pedroia Back in the Majors

Pedroia participated in the majority of spring training before starting the season on a rehab assignment with the Low-A Greenville Drive. Appearing in three games, Pedroia finished his minor league assignment going 3-9 with one double and a run scored. The former MVP reportedly backed up his offense with his trademark strong defense, turning two double plays in his final rehab game.

Pedroia is working on coming back from a devastating knee injury which cost him the majority of the 2018 season. The gold glove second baseman appeared in just three games on Boston’s 108-win team, finishing his abbreviated season with a .091/.231/.091 slash line.

Pedroia made 105 appearances on the 2017 Boston Red Sox. During his time on the field, the righty posted a .293/.369/.392 slash line with a corresponding 101 wRC+. He backed up his solid offensive production with strong defensive play at the second base position. Throughout the course of his career, Pedroia has a .300/.366/.440 slash line with a corresponding 116 wRC+.

Tzu-Wei Lin started the season with AAA Pawtucket but earned a promotion when Brock Holt went on the injured list with a scratched cornea. Lin only had one plate appearance in his most recent call-up. The utility infielder played in 37 games on the 2018 Boston Red Sox. During his time on the field, Lin recorded an impressive .246/.329/.415 slash line with a 99 wRC+. The righty did this while playing a wide variety of positions, including center field.
