The Boston Red Sox dominated from the start in Thursday evening’s game against the Rays. They put their first run on the board in the first inning when Andrew Benintendi scored on a Rafael Devers double play.

Then, the Sox hung a five spot in the third inning behind a Devers two-run triple, an RBI double by J.D. Martinez, and an RBI single by Dustin Pedroia.

The final two Red Sox runs came on a Ryan Fitzgerald double in the bottom of the sixth.

The Red Sox pitching staff completely shut down the Rays offense, allowing no runs on just four hits and 12 strikeouts. Hector Velazquez got his first win of the spring with two shutout innings to start.

Other standout performances from the bullpen included Colten Brewer, who struck out the side in the sixth inning, and Marcus Walden, who threw two shutout innings and struck out three.

We are down to the home stretch of Spring Training now, as the Sox have just four games left, the first of which is Friday at 6:05 p.m. against the Twins. Chris Sale is scheduled to start on the mound.
