The Boston Red Sox fall 11-6 to the New York Yankees in the first game of the final series of the regular season.

Red Sox starter Brian Johnson threw three innings giving up three hits, two runs, and a homer while striking out two before William Cuevas received him in the fourth. He only lasted 0.1 innings during which time he gave up six hits, six runs, one walk, and a home run.
While the Red Sox have already clinched the American League East, the New York Yankees are trying to fend off the Oakland Athletics, who are nipping at their feet in the Wild Card race. The Red Sox will play their first playoff game next Friday, October 5th at Fenway Park.
The highlight of tonight’s game came in the 6th inning when the Red Sox’s Steve Pearce hit a grand slam off of Yankee pitcher J.A. Happ to post four runs on the board for Boston. Pearce is hitting .281 with 10 home runs in a little over 200 plate appearances.
The Boston Red Sox take on the New York Yankees again Saturday at 1:05 pm at Fenway Park. Lance Lynn (9-10) will start for New York while the Red Sox’s Nathan Eovaldi (6-7) will start for Boston.
