According to reports, the Boston Red Sox have placed third basemen Rafael Devers on the 10-Day disabled list with left shoulder inflammation. The placement will be retroactive to July 11th.

In an interview yesterday, manager Alex Cora mentioned that Devers had been beaten up recently, so this is not particularly surprising.

The ever-versatile Tzu-Wei Lin has been called up from Triple-A in his absence.

While he is on the shelf, the Red Sox will likely use some combination of Brock Holt, Eduardo Nunez and Lin at the hot corner. Nunez has featured better defensive numbers at third than at second base in his career. Consequently, it is not unrealistic to see him get the majority of starts at third, while Lin or Holt commands second.

Devers will be missed during his hiatus from the ball club. With that said, the Boston Red Sox are very hot (nine wins in a row) and are playing an easy portion of their schedule right now, which should mitigate the impact of this temporary loss.
