The Boston Red Sox swept the Washington Nationals in Washington DC today, securing a one-game lead over the New York Yankees in the American League East.
Mookie Betts, J.D. Martinez, Rafael Devers, and Eduardo Nunez each secured multiple hits in today’s home run-less game. Devers, Martinez, and Jackie Bradley Jr. hit doubles with Bradley Jr. driving in two runs. Craig Kimbrel picked up his 26th save of the season.
Rodriguez, along with Matt Barnes, Joe Kelly, and Kimbrel shut out the Nationals, holding them to six hits. The Nationals’ Ryan Madson took the loss after giving up two runs, one earned in the seventh inning. Madison is now 2-4 for the season.
The Boston Red Sox will travel to Kansas City Friday to take on the Royals in a three-game series before returning to Boston on Monday. Chris Sale (8-4) will take the mound against Jason Hammel (2-10) at 8:15 ET Friday.
