The Red Sox squared off against the Seattle Mariners for the third time in their four-game series on Saturday Night. Red Sox starter Steven Wright matched up with Seattle’s starter Wade LeBlanc and both pitchers got into a pitching duel. Wright gave up five hits, one earned run, and two walks while recording four strikeouts in seven innings. However, Leblanc outdueled the Red Sox. Through 7.2 innings, Leblanc only gave up two hits while recording a season-high nine strikeouts. While Leblanc dominated on the mound, the Red Sox got front row seats to a defensive clinic by Dee Gordon.

While Leblanc was dominating on the mound, Gordon made three defensive gems to keep the Red Sox off the scoreboard.  After Mookie Betts hit a single to get on base in the first inning, Gordon threw Andrew Benintendi out when he started a double play on a backhanded feed to Jean Segura. In the third inning, he threw out Rafael Devers. Arguably his best play was in the fifth inning.  On a ground ball to second base, Gordon made a diving play and threw out Xander Bogaerts who slid into first base.

Gordon scored the only run in the game. In the bottom of the third inning, Gordon hit a single to left field.  On a pair of singles by Mitch Haniger and Nelson Cruz, Gordon scored the only run in the game and pushed Seattle ahead,1-0.

Wright came into Saturday’s matchup with a 29.2 inning scoreless streak which was snapped after Gordon scored in the third inning.

The Mariners played a near-perfect game against the Red Sox on Saturday. The 2018 Mariners are on an incredible run since losing Robinson Cano. When Cano was handed an 80 game suspension, Seattle has gone on a 22-8 run. After tonight’s win, the Mariners are 21 games over .500.

For the Red Sox, they will be going for a series split in tomorrows season finale.
