The Boston Red Sox defeated the Texas Rangers 5-1 on Friday night. With the victory, Boston moves to an MLB-best (emphasis on “best”) 23-9 on the season, while Texas drops to 13-21 with the loss. The game was played at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas.
If I had to summarize this game best, check out this Mookie Betts’ league-leading 13th homerun of the season.
Yeah, so, you know how Mookie Betts is on pace for like 100 homers, right? Anyway, this solo-shot prevailed the Red Sox to a 3-1 lead in the top of the 6th. J.D. Martinez and Rafael Devers hit solo-homers before this incredible showing happened, so the Sox already were ahead.
Devers, who deserves equal, if not more praise than Betts in this game, hit his second solo-homer in the 7th to propel to Sox to a 4-1 advantage. You can see this sexy dinger below.
Solo-long-balls defined this game, but, if it were not for Rick Porcello’s exquisite pitching, this could have been a very different ball game. He went 6 strong innings of 1 earned run ball, as he punched-out 8 and walked just 1 batter.
Joe Kelly, Matt Barnes and (the return of) Bobby Poyner shut the Rangers out for three consecutive innings to clutch the victory for the Sox.
The Boston Red Sox will take on the Texas Rangers at 8:05 p.m. eastern time Saturday night. Eduardo Rodriguez will take the hill for the Sox and Cole Hamels will do so for the Rangers. It will be the third game of a four-game series between the two clubs.
