The Boston Red defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 on Thursday night. With the victory, Boston advances to 19-5 on the season while Toronto drops to 14-10 with the loss. The Sox take the series over the Jays, picking up two of three. Chris Sale was the starter for the Red Sox and Marco Estrada was the same for the Blue Jays. The game was played at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

It was a back-and-forth affair which saw the Blue Jays get out to a quick 2-0 lead. Kevin Pillar flied a high Chris Sale fastball to right field for a sacrifice fly in the 1st to score the first run of the game. The following inning Devon Travis hit his first homerun of the 2018 season to push the Jays lead to 2-0.

Andrew Benintendi responded in the top of the 3rd, breaking his 0-16 skid, with a line drive RBI double to right field. It cut the lead in half but Toronto swiftly responded with a Justin Smoak long ball in the bottom half of the inning.

The Sox tacked on another run in the 4th inning off a Rafael Devers sac fly, making it a 3-2 Blue Jays lead. The 5th was the big inning for the BoSox, as J.D. Martinez blasted a three-run homerun to right center field. It was his 5th of the season.

The Blue Jays added one more in the bottom 7th, but failed to do anything further in the game. Craig Kimbrel closed out the game for Boston, retiring all three batters and recording a strikeout.

Chris Sale went 6 innings in the contest, striking out 4 batters while walking 2. If you were following along with the recap, he also allowed two homers.

The Boston Red Sox take on the Tampa Bay Rays at 7:10 p.m. eastern on Friday. It will be the first of a three-game series between the clubs. Drew Pomeranz will take the mound for Boston while Blake Snell will do the same for Tampa Bay. The start will be Pomeranz’s second of the 2018 season.
