According to the Boston Red Sox, the team has traded left-handed pitcher Roenis Elias to the Seattle Mariners for a player to be named later (PTBNL) or cash considerations.

Elias had just recently been converted from a starter to a reliever in the Red Sox’ organization. The conversion began in Spring Training and carried over to Triple-A Pawtucket, where Elias tossed 7 and 1/3 innings (4 relief appearances) to the tune of a 1.23 ERA and 4.85 FIP. His 11.05 K/9 at AAA this year, despite the small sample size, is very encouraging.

With the trade, Elias, who has logged just 8 innings of work for the Red Sox’ big league club, will return to the team he had been developed by. He was dealt from the Mariners to the Sox in 2015 as part of the package for Wade Miley.
