The Boston Red Sox defeated the Oakland Athletics 7-3 on Friday night. With the win, Boston climbs to 17-2 on the year while Oakland falls to 9-11. Drew Pomeranz, making his 2018 debut, was the starter for the Red Sox and Kendall Graveman did the same for the Athletics. The game was played at Oakland Alameda Coliseum in Oakland, California.
Pomeranz’s debut was a bit shaky, especially in the 1st inning when he surrendered 3 runs. It appeared he was not going to make it out of the 1st, but he settled down a bit, ending the night with 3 and 2/3 innings pitched. Along with the 3 earned runs, he punched out 7 and walked 2.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Sox were elevated by two crucial homeruns.
Responding to the 3 runs the A’s put up in the bottom 1st, Jackie Bradley Jr. tied the game with a three-run homer to right field.
The game remained tied until the top 6th when Mitch Moreland hit a grand slam to right field, charging the Red Sox to a 7-3 lead. It was the 5th grand slam of the 2018 season for Boston.
The Boston Red Sox will take on the Oakland Athletics at 9:05 p.m. eastern time Saturday. Chris Sale will start the game for Boston while Sean Manaea will do the same for Oakland. It will be the second of a three-game set for the clubs.
