The Boston Red Sox defeated the Los Angeles Angels 8-2 on Thursday night. With the victory, Boston advanced to 16-2 on the season while Los Angeles dropped to 13-6. Eduardo Rodriguez took the hill for the Red Sox and Nick Tropeano did the same for the Angels. The game was played at Angel Stadium in Los Angeles.

Mookie Betts opened up the game with another leadoff homerun, his second of the series. It came off an inside pitch from Tropeano that landed deep over the left field fence.

In the bottom 2nd, Angels infielder Zack Cozart tied the game up with a groundball RBI single to left.

The Sox retaliated with two runs in the 4th inning, highlighted by an RBI double from J.D. Martinez and an RBI single from Rafael Devers. It increased the Sox lead to 3-1.

Former Red Sox outfielder Chris Young responded to the Sox big 4th inning with a solo-shot to left center field in the bottom 5th, making it a 3-2 lead.

The 6th inning saw Andrew Benintendi homer for the first time in 2018 with a solo-shot and another Devers RBI single. Boston tacked on three more runs between the 8th and 9th inning.

Eduardo Rodriguez performed splendidly, pitching 6 innings of 2 earned run ball. He struck out 5 and walked 3. Heath Hembree and Carson Smith pitched scoreless 7th and 8th innings, respectively.

In the 9th, Joe Kelly came in and stifled the Angels from doing any further damage.

The Boston Red Sox take on the Oakland Atheltics at 10:05 p.m. eastern time Friday. Drew Pomeranz is expected to make his first start of the season tomorrow for Boston while Kendall Graveman starts for Oakland. It will be the first of a three-game series.
