The Boston Red Sox defeated the Los Angeles Angels 9-0 on Wednesday night. Boston advanced to 15-2 with the win and Los Angeles descended to 13-5. Rick Porcello took the mound for the Red Sox while Tyler Skaggs did the same for Angels. The game was played at Angel Stadium in Los Angeles.

With a 2-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning, Rafael Devers cracked the game wide open with a grand slam to right field, which happened to be the first of his career. Additionally, it marked the 4th grand slam of the year for the Sox, improving from their lowly zero grand slam total in 2017. It was also the first homerun Skaggs had surrendered on the season.

Mitch Moreland had a huge day at the plate, knocking in four RBIs. He got the day started by pulling a pitch to right field for a single, scoring Hanley Ramirez from second in the 1st inning. Two innings later, he singled to opposite field, batting another runner in, the at-bat before Devers’ grand slam. In the top of the 9th, Moreland struck again, but this time in a bigger way, with a two-run jack on a high pitch he drove out over the fence in right.

J.D. Martinez, no less noticeable, had a stupendous day at the plate as well. He went 4-5 with an opposite field solo-homerun and three singles.

Meanwhile, on the hill, Porcello pitched 6 shutout innings against the Angels. He allowed 6 hits but issued zero free passes, recording 6 strikeouts to boot.

Craig Kimbrel ended the game for the Sox, despite the score, because he had only worked an inning over the past 5 games. He retired the side in the bottom 9th.

The Boston Red Sox will take on the Los Angeles Angels at 10:07 p.m. eastern time Thursday. Eduardo Rodriguez will make his third start of the year for the BoSox and Nick Topeano will do the same for the Angels.  Boston goes for the sweep after winning the first two of the three-game set.
