The Boston Red Sox defeated the Baltimore Orioles 7-3 on Friday night. With the victory, Boston moves to 11-2 on the year while Baltimore falls to 5-9. Eduardo Rodriguez started the game for the Red Sox and Chris Tillman did the same for the Orioles. The game was played at Fenway Park in Boston.

Eduardo Rodriguez was dominant in today’s game, tossing 6 innings of 1 earned-run ball. He struck out 8 batters and walked 2, while also becoming the first Red Sox pitcher to throw over 100 pitches on the season.

Despite a well-pitched outing for E-Rod, he struggled a tad in the first, allowing an early run in the 1st inning of the game. The Sox responded in a big way in the bottom frame, putting up four runs on the board. Most of them came off a three-run Eduardo Nunez blast into the seats of the Green Monster. It was his first non-inside-the-park homerun of the year.

Boston added two more runs in the next two innings, including a Mookie Betts double to left field which score Tzu-Wei Lin from second.

The Red Sox suppressed the Orioles from scoring more runs until the 7th inning. Manny Machado hit a long double over center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr.’s head, putting the score at 7-3. Heath Hembree was the pitcher who allowed the runs to score.

Joe Kelly and Matt Barnes came into pitch the 8th and 9th inning for the Red Sox, respectively, to finish the game.

The Boston Red Sox will take on the Baltimore Orioles at 1:05 p.m. eastern time on Saturday. Hector Velazquez will make the start for Boston and free-agent signee Alex Cobb will do so for Baltimore. It will be the second of a three-game set.
