The Boston Red Sox put left-handed starter David Price on the 10-day IL with left elbow tendinitis. In his place, right-handed pitcher Ryan Weber will be called up from Pawtucket.

Price joins starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi on the mend. Boston has relied on short stints from Hector Velazquez and bullpen days to get through Eovaldi’s injury. With Price now out, Josh Smith, who is making his 2019 debut tonight, will likely get more starting action. Weber, who has started five game in Pawtucket, may also get a chance to start.

Price dealt with similar elbow issues in 2017 and they did not require surgery. On the heels of getting back to being competitive, Boston losing its best pitcher (at least this year) for a period is less than ideal.
